Update – Government approves OBC reservation in Std X-NTSE Stage 2 examination.
As per the latest update from HRD (Human Resource Development) ministry, the government has decided to include OBC quota in NTSE from 2019 onwards. However, this inclusion is only for stage-II of NTSE which is the National level examination. This inclusion of OBC reservation will be in addition to the already existing reservation of 15% for scheduled caste, 7.5% for scheduled tribes and 4% for physically challenged students.
The increase in reservation could very well impact the chances of students falling in the unreserved category, thus to counter this government is also planning to increase the total number of scholarships to 2000 than the current number of 1000 scholarships.
To further add to the joy of students, the government is also planning to increase the amount of scholarship to Rs 5,000 in the next couple of years. As of now, students of Class 11 and 12 get Rs 1,250 per month under the scholarship, while undergraduate and postgraduate students get Rs 2,000. While for PhD students, the amount is decided according to UGC norms.
